Spending a childhood along the front-range and upper regions of the Colorado Rockies it was natural to develop a strong appreciation of the many constant and dramatic changes which occur everyday in nature, it was during these years that my interests in the biological sciences were fostered. In the early 1980's I commenced a research position in the lab of Jeremy Pickett-Heaps at the University of Colorado and my attentions were soon directed to the microscopic world, filming some of the constantly performing and often remarkable tasks of tiny living microrganisms.

I subsequently moved to Australia in 1989 receiving a Ph.D. in botany at the University of Melbourne in 1993. My current research in the field of cell biology at the University of Melbourne has continued to provide me an opportunity to undertake further detailed studies of the goings-on of biological world at the microscopic level and to extend my close association with Jeremy in these pursuits.
